The Welmar Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced
Assistant Purchaser
to join our growing team.
Experience in purchasing in the manufacturing/fabrication industry is a priority, and a post-secondary education in supply chain management, logistics, or business administration is required.
Knowledge of carbon steel, aluminum and stainless steel material, welding products, consumables, and other fabrication related materials is highly desirable.
Dedicated to continuing to develop relationships with suppliers and managing inventory to support production and project schedules.
This role is responsible for sourcing and negotiating material prices, managing supply chain operations, and ensuring that materials are procured efficiently to meet production needs at a thoughtfully negotiated cost.
The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for all projects

THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with project managers, production teams, and estimators to determine material requirements and lead times.
Ensure purchased materials comply with project specifications, company standards, and industry regulations.
Receive, enter and review purchase orders from customers; verifying items received versus ordered and resolve any shipment errors with suppliers
Track deliveries and resolve any supply chain issues to avoid project delays.
Maintain detailed purchasing records, supplier performance data, and cost analyses
Liaise with Production, Quality and Vendors to resolve non-conformances and Vendor Returns.
Monitor inventory levels and place orders to prevent shortages or excess stock.
Work with accounting to ensure timely and accurate invoicing and costing.
Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings and favorable agreements, as directed by the Purchaser
Stay informed on market trends, new materials, cost fluctuations and tariffs affecting the steel and fabrication industries.
EXPERIENCE
3+ years
of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in steel, sheet metal or construction industries.
SKILLS / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY EXECUTE THE ABOVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. Confidence in following directions as given by Supervisor.
Proficiency in purchasing software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Willingness to ask questions and actively participate in learning.
Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 44 per week
