Position Parameters
The Faculty of Science invites applications for two (2) tenure-track Assistant Professors. This is an open disciplinary search in Quantum-Secure Communications; any candidate with research, scholarship, and teaching expertise in this area is encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be appointed in one of the Departments in the Faculty of Science, depending on specific expertise and candidate preference. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024.

Description of Position
The successful candidates will develop an active research program focusing on applying and/or developing quantum-secure communications including but not limited to quantum and quantum-resistant cryptography and communication, that is aligned with the strategic goals of the University of Calgary and the Faculty of Science. Candidate research programs must also align with the University of Calgary\'s Quantum City Initiative that seeks to position Alberta as an international leader in development and application of quantum-based solutions. They will be expected to conduct high quality and impactful research, secure external research funding, and maintain an active profile in their field of expertise. The University of Calgary adheres to the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment and strives to evaluate research impact holistically that explicitly considers the quality, significance, and societal impact including knowledge translation and mobilization.

The successful candidates will be able to interact positively within the diverse research environment within the Faculty of Science, and the University of Calgary, and take advantage of access to state-of-the-art core infrastructure. The candidates is expected to establish collaborative opportunities to enhance and develop either transdisciplinary or external partnerships.

The candidates will play an important role in teaching and research supervision of students in relevant undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful applicant will also be prepared to teach courses in their home department and/or related programs commensurate with their expertise and current teaching needs.

Description of Work Environment
The successful candidates will join an established multidisciplinary and inter-Faculty team of researchers and educators with a commitment to supporting research, innovation, and entrepreneurial opportunities in a highly collaborative environment. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration exist in both research and teaching through active engagement with the , Calgary\'s new hub, and other University initiatives. The position provides an opportunity to establish a vigorous, sustainable, externally funded research program, contribute to teaching and graduate student supervision, and participate in the ongoing growth and development of the Department, Faculty, and University.
