The Department of Anthropology currently has 15 faculty members, one Faculty Service Officer, and one full-time Academic Teaching staff (ATSEC) member. We are a four-field department, and conduct research in Canada and throughout the world. More details can be found on our department's website: .

At the University of Alberta, we have a vibrant department and expertise in several major branches of the discipline of anthropology that focus on different aspects of human populations, societies and cultures. Our work contributes to new ways of thinking for an anthropology of the 21st century, but also for how we think about the world in which we live. At once philosophical and applied, our discipline is also key to how we understand the arts, humanities and social sciences and there are opportunities to study anthropology in combination with a wide range of other subjects.

Position

The Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Arts, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Position in Socio-cultural Anthropology with a starting date of July 1, 2023. We are particularly interested in strengthening our research capacity concerning human-environment relations, anthropological studies of climate change, conservation of resources, and / or the social impacts of extractive industries and resource development, as well as in other areas of socio-cultural anthropology. We encourage applications from scholars who do community-based research.

Responsibilities for the position include maintaining an active research program, teaching at all levels in the undergraduate and graduate program, and graduate student supervision. The regular teaching load is four one-term courses per year.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Socio-Cultural anthropology at time of appointment. They must demonstrate potential for excellence in research and teaching.
