Assistant Professor in Epidemiology

de Montr\xc3\xa9al The Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (DMSP) in the School of Public Health at the Universit\xc3\xa9 de
Montr\xc3\xa9al (ESPUM) is recruiting for a position at rank of Assistant Professor for a teaching and research career in
Epidemiology. The DMSP brings together 37 professors and more than 60 adjunct, clinical and research
professors divided into five areas of excellence: Health Promotion, Global Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and
Bioethics. We welcome candidates with research programs in any field of epidemiology, but those who
complement the existing strengths and expertise within the department would be an asset.

The Universit\xc3\xa9 de Montr\xc3\xa9al is the only francophone Canadian institution to offer training programs in public health
and health services administration accredited by American organizations such as the Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME); the School is also accredited by Council for
Education in Public Health (CEPH). The ESPUM offers specialized training in several areas of public health, at
the undergraduate and graduate levels, and in professional and research training programs. In the field of
epidemiology, the School has a master\xe2\x80\x99s program in epidemiology and a doctoral program in public health with
an epidemiology option. Teaching focuses on modern epidemiological and biostatistical methods and our
professors also contribute to other programs, such as the Master of Public Health and the other options of the
PhD in Public Health. Our professors are associated with several research centres of excellence in Montreal and
have multiple national and international collaborations.

As a professor, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the excellence of the DMSP and the
ESPUM

\xe2\x80\xa6through your teaching and research activities. You will also contribute to the visibility of your field and actively
participate in the functioning of a leading academic institution. As such, you will be asked to:
\xef\x80\xbe
Teach at the graduate level, i.e., Masters and PhD, in the field of epidemiology (e.g., MSO6011 Concepts
and Methods in Epidemiology; MSO6014 Intermediate Epidemiology; SPU7152 Advanced Epidemiology)
as well as in courses and programs in other areas of public health \xef\x80\xbe Supervise master\xe2\x80\x99s and doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows in the production of theses, directed
studies, and internships \xef\x80\xbe Develop and conduct a research program in epidemiology and publish in scientific journals \xef\x80\xbe Contribute actively to the functioning of the Department and the School by being involved in
administrative, teaching and scientific activities \xef\x80\xbe Participate in external academic activities and contribute to the visibility of the Department, the School and the University in scientific and professional circles

To succeed in this role, you should:
\xef\x80\xbe

Hold a PhD in epidemiology or in a related discipline with research programming in epidemiology (e.g.,
public health with an option in epidemiology) \xef\x80\xbe Have a solid background in modern epidemiological methods and biostatistics \xef\x80\xbe Demonstrate the ability to teach epidemiological methods at introductory, intermediate and advanced
levels to a variety of audiences \xef\x80\xbe Demonstrate an ability to conduct high quality, externally funded research \xef\x80\xbe Demonstrate an ability to supervise at the postgraduate level \xef\x80\xbe Have an adequate knowledge of written and spoken French or a strong commitment to quickly mastering
the proficiency level required, in accordance with the Universit\xc3\xa9 de Montr\xc3\xa9al\xe2\x80\x99s Language Policy. An
