The Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate is anticipated to start by January 2, 2024. The successful candidate may also be appointed as the Eakin Chair in Critical Qualitative Health Research Methodology for a 5-year term, renewable following a favourable review.
The successful candidate will be producing innovative scholarship about critical qualitative health methodology and teaching advanced critical qualitative research methodology to graduate students. The position is open with respect to a substantive focus on health (e.g., health equity, mental health, global health). The successful candidate will be appointed to the Division of Social and Behavioural Health Sciences in recognition of the centrality of social sciences to qualitative health research and methodology.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Public Health, Health Sciences, or in the Social Sciences with demonstrated excellence in critical qualitative research methodology and health research, as well as excellence in teaching. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate a record of scholarship in critical qualitative methodology (i.e. publications, presentations, and other forms of innovative methodological work), excellence in critical qualitative health research and teaching and success in securing external research funding. Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.
Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong endorsements by referees. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars or student mentorship.
The Chair\xe2\x80\x99s research program will be based at Centre for Critical Qualitative Health Research (CQ). The Centre for Critical Qualitative Health Research, known as CQ, builds capacity in the health sciences to advance critical and theoretically informed qualitative inquiry. The holder of the Chair will provide an annual report of teaching and research activities to the Dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
The Chair will work with the Centre\xe2\x80\x99s collaborative and multidisciplinary networks to champion and advance critical qualitative methodology relevant to health research. It is expected that the Chair will lead the Centre\xe2\x80\x99s curriculum in advanced critical qualitative methodology and teach core courses in the graduate curriculum for doctoral students. It is expected that the Chair will work with the Centre\xe2\x80\x99s director to co-lead a network of CQ scholars at the university and its affiliated research institutes, and in other research settings in Canada and internationally.
