What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Under the direction of the Manager, create news stories and information summaries for WHRI e-newsletters, website, social media and other publications. Collate and synthesize information into a written format such as reports and articles for various WHRI web and print communications.
  • Update investigator web profiles and other website pages. Post social media updates on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Assist with event promotion and organization as needed, including preparing and disseminating event posters, social media posts and emails.
  • Collect communications data and update databases with information on WHRI media coverage and research stories. Collect metrics data for WHRI social media channels and prepare metrics summary reports as directed by the Manager, Research and Knowledge Translation or designate.
  • Conduct interviews with WHRI investigators, trainees and staff to create news stories regarding ongoing research projects and initiatives for the purposes of promoting research via communication channels (i.e. e-newsletters, web stories and social media posts).
What you bring
  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Diploma in a field such as Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related discipline and three (3) years of recent, related experience, preferably in a health research environment.
You will also have:
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of journalistic writing and editing skills.
  • Knowledge of media production methods.
  • Knowledge of scientific terminology and research methodology in the health sector.
  • Proficiency in computer applications using word processing, database and internet applications and tools.
  • Ability to apply sound communication skills and organize various data for record and collection purposes.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC\'s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).

Job Type: Temporary, Part-Time (0.60FTE; Until September 27, 2024)
Salary Range: $47,064 - $61,771/year. The starting salary for this position would be determined with consideration of the successful candidate\xe2\x80\x99s relevant education and experience, and would be in alignment with the provincial compensation reference plan. Salary will be prorated accordingly for part time roles.
