Job Summary:
----------------


The incumbent provides support with planning approvals and community planning projects.


Duties and Responsibilities:
--------------------------------


• Primary point of contact for initial enquiries about City Official Community Plan, Zoning Bylaw amendment, heritage application requirements and the City's land use regulations. Reviews and processes Zoning Bylaw amendment applications and heritage applications, as assigned.


• Assists with research, policy development and regulatory implementation on a wide range of community planning issues.


• Responds to enquiries from members of the public and stakeholders on the City planning initiatives.


• Prepares background information and visual communication tools for reports and publications on various planning matters.


• Collates, maintains, analyzes and coordinates background data and technical information, including statistics and large data sets, in support of various department services and research projects.


• Provides support on special projects, such as a neighbourhood planning initiative, and to staff in other departments, as assigned.


• Creates mapping products, as required.


• Coordinates in-person and online community engagement processes, including organizing and participating in public meetings, preparing surveys, mailing lists and notifications, coordinating logistics, preparing informational and graphic materials, and receiving, summarizing and analyzing public comments. Creates and maintains the Planning and Sustainability Services webpage, as assigned.


• Acts as Planner II, as assigned.


• Follows, so far as is reasonably practicable, established safety procedures and standards.


• Other related duties.

Job Requirements:


Working Conditions:

Majority of the work is performed under normal office conditions. Some intra-city travel will be required.


Required Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
--------------------------------------------


• A university degree in Urban Planning or related field
• Four months related experience and 6 months on the job experience.
• Demonstrated analytical, organizational, prioritizing skills and ability to multitask.
• Class 5 Driver's License
• Experience creating different types of mapping and graphic displays through the use of several types of software. Strong graphic skills are a requirement.
• Strong communications skills, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a wide range of people.
• Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
• Proven analytical and problem solving skills.
• Knowledge of First Nations Umbrella Final Agreement, Self-Government Agreements, the Municipal Act and relevant City of Whitehorse bylaws and policies is desirable.
• Membership or eligibility for membership in Canadian Institute of Planners.


An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Vehicle, general office equipment, computer with applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Dynamics (GP), GIS and AutoCad.
