23:00 pm to 07:00 am from Thursday - Monday 23:00 pm to 07:00 am from Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am to 18:00 pm from Tuesday - Saturday 10:00 am to 18:00 pm from Friday - Tuesday
The rotations currently available are subject to change based on operational requirements. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, and require the ability to work across various locations within Ottawa. Possessing a personal vehicle and the ability to drive is considered an asset.

STARTING SALARY:

$61,145.45 to $74,513

SUMMARY



The Assistant Manager (AM) provides on-the-floor support and supervision to the staffing team in delivering services to our shelter and drop-in guests and supportive housing residents. Through a rotational approach, the AM works throughout the entire SGH continuum of care and supports the training, supervision and performance management of frontline employees across programs. As the first point of contact for staff, the AM oversees day-to-day operations, including emergency scheduling, ensuring compliance with health, safety and service protocols, and responding to emergent issues with calm and efficiency.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Supervise frontline staff, including setting expectations, monitoring and communicating about performance, providing coaching and mentorship, and supporting professional development

Empower/foster improvement in staff members' skill sets in areas such as guest engagement, staff communication, knowledge of resources, relationships with partnering agencies, history of the organization, and understanding of the role of management

Take initiative in identifying operational challenges and bringing forward creative, sustainable solutions that improve service delivery and client outcomes

Provide support to other programs on an as-needed basis and provide on-call support as required

Assist with the development and promote the implementation of policies and procedures

Complete day-to-day scheduling, as required

Support guests/residents in the program

Maintain relationships with partnering agencies and attend/participate in inter-agency meetings

Ensure that staff members are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

QUALIFICATIONS



Post-secondary education in Social Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience working with individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders and a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work using a health promotion approach and harm reduction philosophies. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral). Ability to have difficult and candid conversations. Ability to develop collaborative relationships and engage and motivate a diverse team of staff and volunteers. Superior problem solving and crisis intervention skills. Superior integrity, values and ethics. Excellent time management, prioritization and resiliency skills. Previous supervisory experience and food handling experience are preferred. Bilingualism is an asset.
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Must by at least 18 years of age

Able to lift up to 25kg.

Able to read text and communicate orally in English. Ability to communicate in other languages is considered an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS



The regular working schedule is 8 hours based on the rotations outlined above which may change due to operational need. There is an expectation of flexibility in scheduling work around program needs and to provide coverage for management gaps, that may occur from time to time. This could also include meeting with employees who are on shift or attending work events. There is an expectation that the staff will manage their time accordingly and utilize flexible working hours where needed to make up for the times where exceptional hours may apply.
