The Assistant Manager, Payroll plays a critical role in running the full-cycle payroll and year-end processes for union staff. Our ideal candidate is an individual that has completed the Canadian Payroll Associations Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, are highly organized and can multitask in a fast paced / time sensitive environment.

What will you do this year? In your role as Assistant Manager, Payroll, your primary accountabilities will be to:
Run full-cycle payroll and year-end processes for union staff in a timely and accurate manner.
Assist with implementation of new Time & Attendance implementation (including scheduling component)
Verify that payroll is processed in line with Collective Agreements and Employment Standards.
Prepare complex reports.
Prepare journal entries and calculate absence accruals.
Prepare regular payroll account reconciliations.
Assist the Payroll Manager with benefits processing and short-term disability claims.
Process union pay adjustments, rate changes, terminations, and records of employment.
Other related duties as assigned.
What else?
Completion of Canadian Payroll Associations Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is required.
Must have some post-secondary education in business administration.
Mid to advanced knowledge of excel (VLOOKUP and pivot tables) is required.
Must have at least 2 or more years of experience in all facets of payroll administration including full-cycle payroll processing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with payroll service providers and processing union payroll is an asset.
Previous experience with scheduling software is an asset.
Must possess knowledge of legal requirements and entitlements governing payroll.
Must be able to conduct complex calculations with speed and accuracy.
Must be able to remain calm under pressure and deadlines.
Strong Interpersonal skills (teamwork, conflict resolution, relationship building) are required.
Effective communication skills (listening, writing, reading) are required.
Must be able to multi-task and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines.
Critical Thinking/Problem Solving (strategize and use judgement to make decisions and solve problems, consulting appropriate authority when necessary) are required.
Must have the ability to work extended hours and workweeks as required.
Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.

Additional Information The PNE\'s compensation offerings are in alignment with a pay-for-performance pay philosophy that recognizes individual, and teamwork performance. The role is a permanent, full-time position with a typical salary range of $65,000 - $75,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate\xe2\x80\x99s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, experience, and internal pay structures. As a part of the PNE\'s total compensation package, this position may be eligible for other benefits subject to program eligibility requirements.
