What You Will Do





As the Assistant Manager, Inspections, you'll play a key leadership role in keeping Toronto's subway system safe, reliable, and moving. Reporting to the Manager - Subway Track, you'll guide and support the teams responsible for all Track Maintenance inspection activities--including Non-Destructive Testing, Track Patrol, Roadmasters, Senior Forepersons, and the Senior Track Inspection Engineer.

In this role, you'll champion high quality, efficient inspection practices that directly contribute to TTC's defect reduction strategy and long term asset management goals. You'll ensure inspection requirements are clearly defined and consistently applied across track standards, SOPs, work methods, and training programs. Your work will help shape a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and industry leading safety across the entire track inspection function.

You will be working collaboratively within the Subway Track team and highly engaged with our Maintenance Engineering team to ensure maintenance work is properly prioritized and scheduled, and defect trends are accurately identified and tracked, to support a proactive maintenance model.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?



University Degree in a relevant discipline such as Track, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, with directly related track experience, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the Province of Ontario is mandatory. Must maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' driver's licence. Apply track engineering principles, standards, and best practices to the design, maintenance, and performance of subway track systems, materials, and components. Support civil and mechanical engineering activities related to railway track construction, inspection, maintenance, and design. Contribute to project planning and management, including scheduling, budgeting, and expenditure tracking. Lead and participate in conceptual planning, detailed design development, quality assurance, and inspection activities. Ensure compliance with AREMA, APTA, FRA, ASTM, CSA, OHSA, environmental legislation, and all relevant provincial and national codes and standards. Use PC based tools and software (Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, scheduling tools, MAXIMO) to support project and operational activities. Produce and review professional level CAD designs and drawings, applying strong drafting and dimensioning practices for civil and mechanical layouts. Provide technical leadership through strong analytical, problem solving, and design capabilities. Plan, allocate, and manage resources across multiple concurrent projects while maintaining budget and schedule commitments. Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff within both direct reporting and matrix team structures. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical issues and maintain effective working relationships. Prepare, interpret, and analyze complex technical reports, identify issues, and develop practical solutions. Apply knowledge of business administration, financial management, HR principles, and safety related legislation to support operational and project needs. Support enterprise asset management initiatives and processes.
