Job Summary



Free Play for Kids is searching for Seasonal Assistant Hockey Coaches for both ice hockey and ball hockey who can assist in coaching our Wolves Hockey team on a contract basis. If you're a top-level coach or a top-level player looking to grow into a coaching role, we want you to be one of our Hockey Coaches.

In the role of an Assistant Hockey Coach within our team, you will operate under the guidance of a Head Hockey Coach. Your focus will be provided with engaging sessions that emphasize the fundamental aspects of Hockey but also showcase you as a great leader and mentor.

During this seasonal position, you will be responsible for coaching a Wolves Hockey team during practices and games. The selected candidate will be required to work flexible hours as practices are held during the weekdays and games or tournaments are held during the weekends. Your commitment as a coach during these months will be vital in fostering team success and we are excited to see what you bring to the team.

Education & Qualifications



Working towards or completed, a degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sport and Recreation, Kinesiology, Education, Sociology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution. Experience coaching/leading youth sport teams and/or extensive playing experience. A moderate level of skating experience is required. (Ice Hockey) A valid Driver's Licence with a vehicle is required. Clear up-to-date criminal and vulnerable sector check. Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training or ability to obtain quickly. Valid certifications in coaching hockey are considered an asset. (Coach 1, Coach 2, Safety Certification, Online Checking, and Checking 2) (Ice Hockey) Experience with technology such as Google Meet and Connecteam apps is considered an asset.

Responsibilities



Assisting in leading practices, games, drills, and with the ultimate goal of creating safe, accessible, and inclusive spaces for kids to play, belong, and grow. Working with youth in U11 - U18, by facilitating programming in collaboration with other team members. Training the youth to play hockey and compete in leagues and tournaments. Conducting formal and informal skills assessments for program participants. Demonstrating adaptability by swiftly adjusting to the changing circumstances and embracing new challenges in the role. Traveling to various locations in Edmonton and transporting necessary equipment. Modeling key organization values through interactions with all internal and external partners and team members. Relating to youth from diverse communities and acting as a mentor and role model for kids in the program. Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses. Participating in work assignments arising from special events, special projects, or overall program initiatives. Understanding the power of sport as a tool for social good.

Position Conditions



This is a seasonal position of approximately 10 hours per week. Hours of work are determined by program schedule. Job is performed in schools and recreation settings, but work settings may vary depending on projects.
