Job Description

Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services is searching for an Assistant Health Nurse (AHN) to join our Communicable Disease Control (CDC) - Guidance & Training team. Reporting to the Associate Manager, Guidance & Training, this position provides support to the provincial CDC program by using specialized knowledge and skill to lead the development and maintenance of CDC guidance documents and resources (e.g., public health investigation and follow up of notifiable diseases, immunization, outbreak and blood and body fluid exposure management) as mandated under the Alberta Public Health Act. Other key roles include leading the development, maintenance, implementation and facilitation of orientation and ongoing training and resources for staff. Experience in leadership and mentorship is required as you support health providers in highly complex and often unpredictable clinical situations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required as you work independently and collaboratively with members of a multidisciplinary health care team and external partners to develop and implement best practice recommendations and strategies. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) and CDC software applications (CD/OM, Connect Care, Netcare) is essential for developing guidance and training resources and facilitating training sessions. The AHN demonstrates a high degree of initiative, exhibits strong time management and prioritization skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a fast-paced work environment. This is a remote position that may require occasional travel into a designated CDC site depending on operational requirements.

In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
