Overview

Pinnacle Acres, a leading 38-acre indoor cucumber farm, is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Grower to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in greenhouse agriculture and a deep understanding of plant care, climate control, and cultivation practices. The Grower Assistant will be learning and supporting the Grower in all aspects. An understanding of growing high/low crop production yields and good quality cucumbers is essential. Your hands-on approach and attention to detail will be key in ensuring healthy plant growth and consistently high-quality yields, all while maintaining strict safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

Order and maintain stock of fertilizers Mix fertilizers per grower instructions; keep mixing area clean. Monitor crop growth and spot nutrient issues. Test the drip and drain water daily. Collect weekly water, leaf, and fruit samples. Read and interpret data on samples for proper nutrient levels. Record plant growth, leaf size, fruit set, and weights weekly. Prepare and assist with the applications of pesticides as needed (after safety course); wear PPE. Coordinate and prepare for washing and sterilizing the greenhouse post-harvest. Assist with planting and prep greenhouse. Assist and maintain propagation and the environment. Cleanup and organize mixing room, cleaning tanks, and general housekeeping. Monitor Bioreactor levels and temperatures Must comply with all Health and Safety, Food Safety, and Biosecurity. Training with the alarms Ensuring all company, food safety, health and safety policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to. Reporting any maintenance concerns. This job will require long hours including regular Saturday shifts, as required by the production schedule.

Experience

Proven experience in greenhouse agriculture for a minimum 2 years. Basic knowledge of Hoogendoorn and Priva climate control systems. Grower Pesticide Safety Course certification. A diploma in agriculture is an asset, but not a requirement. Good working knowledge of irrigation systems and maintenance. Mechanical skills for troubleshooting and equipment upkeep. Ability to use heavy machinery like forklifts, scissor carts and farm vehicles. Confident using hand tools for various tasks. Solid math skills for measurements and calculations. Strong communicator who works well in a team and takes direction with ease. Spanish language skills are considered an asset, but not a requirement. Passionate about innovation and continuous learning. This role involves frequent physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, twisting, reaching, crouching, kneeling, and working at heights. Extended periods of standing and walking are required, with occasional desk-based tasks.
