Job Description

Position Title: Assistant General ManagerStatus: Full Time - 45 hours per weekAccountable To: General ManagerJOB OBJECTIVE: As a Manager you are responsible for the operation of the business from the beginning of your shift until the close of the business day. This includes, but is not limited to, the performance standards outlined for your position title.Leads restaurant operations; planning and directing all activities that involve food and beverage service, organizes and controls restaurant operations; maintains a professional environment; cultivates exceptional team and individual performance; maintains high quality standards for food, beverages, and service; maintains high standards of cleanliness, appearance and security for the facility; provides accurate, timely reports on key operational measures.TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Manager, at all times during your shift, sets the stage and directs the business in keeping with the expectations outlined by the performance standards for your position.

  • Pre-shifts with FOH/BOH teams outlining objectives set out for that shift/week.
  • Post-shifting with FOH/BOH teams based on the objectives outlined for a successful shift.
  • Post-shifts may be individual 1-on-1 sessions as staff are cut based on business volume.
  • Maintaining the physical environment of your business. This could be cleanliness issues, repair & maintenance issues, or general ambiance of the restaurant.
  • Ensure staff are in line with customer service standards.
  • Team Development: On the job training of new recruits, leading by example and setting stage for those on the virtual bench, follow-up training with veteran staff (pop quizzes), staff evaluations every 3 months, initiate disciplinary action when required through warnings, write-ups, suspensions and terminations, and ensure compliance with labour standards, health and safety regulations, and other legal requirements.
  • Sales & Marketing (Internal and External): Driving sales initiatives for floor staff through promotions, upselling and romancing, execution of marketing plans from head office and/or in-house events, building the business through networking and party bookings, utilizing social media to promote brand, developing and maintaining relationships with new and regular patrons, execution of events.
  • Communication and Planning: Hold pre-shifts and post-shifts daily (include FOH and BOH), daily huddle with Executive Chef or Sous Chef, to review objectives and current shift, daily huddle with General Manager to transition the business, attend weekly management meetings, reinforce current programs and objectives, weekly meeting with General Manager.

Employment RequirementsTechnical Requirements
  • Pro Serve Certificate
  • Minimum 2 years management experience in a full service restaurant
  • Knowledge of all products, ingredients, prep. techniques, history: food, beer, wine and liquor
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Knowledge of all licenses including: capacity, liquor, health, city, noise, etc.
  • Working knowledge of product inventory system, cooler counts, daily, weekly and monthly inventory
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of Micros POS system
  • Thorough understanding of A/V system
