Little Kitchen Academy (LKA) is the first-of-its-kind, Montessori-inspired cooking academy for children ages three through eighteen. Our purpose is to empower children to make independent choices and develop a healthy relationship with food and themselves. We are building a movement to radically change lives from scratch, with joy, mindfulness, and responsibility at our core.
Position Overview
The
Assistant Director
is a dynamic leader who supports the day-to-day operations, brand integrity, and student experience at their location. This role ensures alignment with LKA's mission, values, and operational standards while driving business performance and educational outcomes. The Assistant Director serves as a second-in-command to the Director, stepping into leadership as needed, and fostering a culture of excellence, safety, and innovation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Work to manage environment upkeep, cleaning and sanitation, supply inventory, and equipment maintenance.
-Take on ingredient ordering and recipe organization to prepare for upcoming classes.
-Assist in training team members and collaborate with the Director to plan, assign, and manage workloads effectively.
-Provide performance feedback, participating in employee recognition and support, ensuring instructors are held accountable.
-Build and maintain class/session schedules within registration software each season, ensuring accurate and timely updates.
-Respond to emails and assist families with registration questions and concerns in a friendly and informative manner.
-Support the Director in building relationships with local schools and community partners.
-Assist the Director in ensuring ongoing compliance with health, fire, and sanitation regulations related to food preparation and classroom safety.
-Engage in teaching and supporting of ongoing classes, maintaining staff schedules and covering where needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role in education, hospitality, child development, or culinary environments
Strong operational and team management skills; detail-oriented with a passion for systems and structure
Proven ability to inspire, mentor, and build high-functioning teams
Excellent communication skills with children, families, and team members
First Aid/CPR certification (including with children), Food Safe Level 1 and a Criminal Background Check required or attainable prior to start
Understanding of or experience with Montessori or progressive education models is a strong asset
Availability for evenings and weekends, based on operational needs
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
