Spaces and Experiences operates undergraduate and graduate student housing on the St. George campus. This includes Graduate House, Knox Residence, Chestnut Residence, and Oak House. The S&E Student Residences provide a residence experience that fosters community engagement, celebrates diversity, and keeps equity and inclusion at the forefront of our decision making and approach. Under the general direction of the Director of Residence Operations, the Assistant Director, Residence Operations, is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the S+E Student Residences within their assigned portfolio, leading a team of managers, supervisors, staff, and third-party service providers, in administrative and facility management roles, across multiple residences. The Assistant Director is responsible for the efficient, cost effective, and successful conduct of operational activities within their assigned residences. These include facility and property management, service delivery, and the procurement of goods and services within pre-approved limits. The Assistant Director also supports the Director in various financial and operational planning activities, including strategic and capital planning, and makes recommendations for revenue optimization and cost containment. The Assistant Director supports the Director in fostering a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement within their assigned teams. The incumbent must be available to consult on or attend to emergencies and participate in residence activities outside of normal office hours.



The Assistant Director of Residence Operations works in close and frequent collaboration with the Residence Life team and other managers to ensure that facilities, amenities, and services within their jurisdiction are properly planned and executed to meet students' evolving needs, and to support the academic mission of the University.

Qualifications



Education:



Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience MBA or Masters' degree in Higher Education Administration preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Facilities Management or Project Management certificate required.

Experience:



A minimum of 6-7 years' related working experience ideally in roles which combine financial and facilities management, ideally in a residential setting. Experience leading and managing teams preferably in a unionized environment. Strong knowledge of and experience within higher education. Experience and understanding of University of Toronto policies and procedures regarding HR management, procurement, facility management and capital project development an asset. Strong understanding of facilities management best practice. Experience working on or leading large capital projects. Demonstrated experience with forecasting and developing operational budgets.

Skills:



Strong organizational, interpersonal, administrative, communication and managerial skills. The ability to develop, interpret and apply policies and procedures. Strong analytical skills including financial and operational analysis. Excellent aptitude and familiarity with budget spreadsheets including annual forecasts and multi-year projections. Working knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.

Must be able to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines. Comfortable working in an unpredictable and often stressful environment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. A high degree of initiative and self-motivation required. Ability to effectively manage, motivate and mobilize a team of administrative staff.
