Position Purpose




The Assistant Director, Entrepreneurship hub (eHub) plays an integral role in advancing the University's entrepreneurship priorities. With goals of offering tailored support and mentorship, the individual must adapt and provide sound leadership for the continued growth and evolution in entrepreneurship at the University.


The Assistant Director, eHub, will lead the design, planning and success of eHub programs and activities that are cross-institution in scope, with the intent to bring meaningful entrepreneurship experiences to students, researchers, faculty, and alumni.


The individual directs all program activities while developing medium and long-term strategies to align itself with the University's Transformation 2030 pillars and offer best-in-class programs and support services.

Specific Accountabilities



Leads the development of the overall entrepreneurship strategy for the Office of the Vice-President Research and Innovation program, in collaboration with the Associate Vice-President, Innovation, Partnerships and Entrepreneurship, and the Senior Director, Innovation Support Services. Design and implement an effective technology stack that supports the team in maintaining a complex annual calendar, managing programs, projects, and special ad hoc initiatives, as well as storing and updating contacts, and data measurement across all 11 programs, +125 stakeholders and 75 events and workshops. Responsible for uOttawa entrepreneurship and engages with external stakeholders in the Ottawa-Gatineau region for collaboration, partnership and fundraising opportunities. Leads a communication strategy to effectively market the eHub and promote all entrepreneurship activities to campus stakeholders and external partners, and relate that to the University of Ottawa's overall objectives and key messages. Actively builds and cultivates partnerships on campus with faculties and services to increase awareness and interest in entrepreneurship, innovation, social entrepreneurship and social innovation Collaborates with the faculties and services to establish and maintain relationships with external program sponsors, the investment community and potential donors. Represents the University of Ottawa in all matters related to the Entrepreneurship Hub, including representing the University of Ottawa in external committees, judging in competitions, and attending events. Responsible for the eHub budget, including analyzing the financial needs, determining the priorities, preparing and controlling the budget in line with the University policies and regulations. Develop and lead a high performing team of 7-10 staff members, which include full-time staff, part-time and student positions. Responsible for all elements of human resources assigned to the eHub including hiring of staff, setting annual objectives, performance evaluation, training, and development as well as conflict resolution. Actively coach staff to help them achieve their goals on the team. Fosters and maintains relationships with current and alumni program participants, for example, having regular scheduled meetings with portfolio companies, facilitating group training, hosting stakeholder debriefings, and cultivating relationships between participants and stakeholder network.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills



Master's degree, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience 10 years of experience in entrepreneurship, business ventures and management of entrepreneurship programs A minimum of five years in entrepreneurship-related program delivery activities The successful candidate will have strong entrepreneurial, leadership, operational and interpersonal relations credentials, and a passion for education and training of the next generation of entrepreneurs and agents of change. Knowledge of fundraising concepts and appropriate solicitation techniques. Knowledge of budget processes. Knowledge of with start-up companies and early stage investment. Experience leading student and/or alumni volunteers desirable. Experience in fundraising desirable. Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills; able to work with a dynamic and diverse set of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders in a university environment. Organization and planning skills. Leadership skills; ability to set priorities and execute them in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French at the time of appointment.
