Step into a role that helps you level up! We are looking for two (2) Assistant Designer, Communications to join our team to help everyone listen and hear on our system!
What You Will Do
--------------------
You will be providing technical support in the preparation, analysis, monitoring and co-ordination of new projects or modifications to existing equipment as related to the design and testing of TTC's Communications systems and equipment for the department; assists with the preparation of estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures and drawings; conducts engineering analyses, evaluations, tests, quality assurance and draws conclusions; conducts investigations into communication problems (electrical and/or signaling); and detects new areas needing engineering attention to improve safety, productivity and cost effectiveness.
You prepare and update technical designs and drawings, review site conditions and specifications, and coordinate with TTC departments to ensure accurate, compliant project documentation. You research and apply design standards, support engineers with technical requirements, and guide maintenance staff and contractors on equipment and installations. You troubleshoot system issues, analyze defects, and develop engineered solutions while overseeing construction, inspection, testing, and commissioning activities. You also produce reports, diagnose complex problems, perform engineering calculations, and ensure all work follows TTC safety policies and industry regulations.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical Engineering) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
Having a certification through PEO or O.A.C.E.T.T. is considered an asset.
You have an understanding or working knowledge of communications design principles, communications systems (i.e. TETRA PMR radio systems and distributed antenna systems (DAS)), communications equipment, the associated electronic testing equipment, vital and non-vital systems and other associated subway communications equipment utilized, maintained and rehabilitated by the S/E/C Department
You have knowledge of CADD (preferably Microstation CADD) and other computerized applications applicable to the work (e.g. MS Office, MS Word, Excel etc.)
You possess sound knowledge of electrical design principles, methods, procedures, practices and measurements including knowledge of the Ontario Hydro Electric Safety Code, Ontario Building Code, TTC standards, CSA standards and other applicable codes and standards
Sound judgement, proven technical design skills; well-developed organizational, analytical and problem solving skills; effective verbal communication and technical report writing skills
Knowledge or experience with LTE, GPS, Bluetooth, and AVL systems would be considered an asset
Experience with programming languages (i.e. C, C#, C++, Python, etc.) and embedded system development considered an asset

The Communication Engineering team operates in a hybrid work environment, combining remote work with in-office collaboration.
