Job Description


The Faculty of Engineering at Dalhousie University provides an opportunity to be part of an excellent engineering school in a leading, research-intensive Canadian University. Reporting to the Dean, Faculty of Engineering the Assistant Dean, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) is a leader in the Faculty in advocating, supporting, and implementing equity, diversity, and inclusion goals.
Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with external stakeholders to significantly increase the number of Indigenous and Black students graduating as engineers in Nova Scotia by 2028 and beyond.
  • Develop a program which will support Indigenous and Black students from high school to convocation to connections with the profession. Develop plans and strategies that can be applied to other equity deserving groups.
  • Engage in community building by uniting community knowledge and cultural perspectives together with the academic, training and education, this includes community engagement and outreach, customized programming, student financial support, and mentorship and career preparation.
  • Represent the Dean or the Faculty, where appropriate, in internal or external activities or committees related to diversity and inclusion.
  • Liaise with various student groups (including Women in Engineering, Engiqueers, Jack.org) to aid in coordination and success of activities.
Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant area of study (such as Engineering) and a minimum of five years\' experience promoting a mission of diversity and inclusion in an institution in a senior-level capacity (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Existing relationships and demonstrated ability to work with a variety of equity deserving groups and communities.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve, demonstrate ability to take initiative, and meet deadlines.
Assets
  • Master\'s degree.
  • Lived experience as a member of an equity deserving group, and knowledge of relevant communities.
