The Opportunity:

Bert Church Live Theatre is currently recruiting for a student enrolled in a post-secondary program to take on the role of Assistant Day Camp Programmer to plan and supervise the summer performing arts camps. This role will be responsible to create the required syllabus and outcomes for the Performing Arts Day Camps and create sustainability for future camps. The successful candidate will be enrolled in a post secondary program with experience and passion for the performing arts.

Primary accountabilities include:

  • Develop the syllabus and outcomes for the Performing Arts Theatre Camp including lesson plans for each week
  • Work with the theatre technician to develop and coordinate the technical theatre requirements needed to support the performing arts camps
  • Develop exercises to provide a broad introduction to all theatrical elements with a highlight on collective creation
  • Develop exercises to focus on performing arts and confidence skill development
  • Develop the schedule for the Performing Arts Camps, theatre times and outdoor activities
  • Complete training, informal coaching and mentoring of the performing arts camp leaders
  • Once the day camps start, it is expected that the Assistant Day Camp Programmer act as the Artistic Director and participate as the lead instructor for the programs to ensure consistency in the delivery of the camps
  • Manage and execute the registration, documentation and payment for performing arts camps
You Bring:
  • Enrolment in a post secondary program
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Experience in theatre and performing arts roles would be an asset
  • Experience in leading camps or programs to children between the ages of 7-12
  • Technical and practical experience at an advanced level in one or more of the following disciplines: live performance, dance, musical theatre, movement, voice, etc.
  • Knowledge of specific performing arts techniques including text analysis, voice & speech, movement and direction
  • Knowledge of program planning
  • Experience working with a team and the ability to foster a strong team environment within the day camps
  • Exemplary customer service skills with the ability to focus individual and group efforts toward identifying and meeting community needs
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Dependable, initiative and a flair for creativity and ingenuity
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization skills with the capability to plan and implement complex programs
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to effectively manage and resolve day-to-day issues as they arise

Additional Information:

This position is a full time summer term from May to the end of August.
