We are currently seeking an Assistant Controller for our Head Office who will be responsible for overseeing full-cycle project accounting, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting for development and construction projects. This role leads and mentors a small finance team, supports internal controls and compliance, and drives continuous process improvements while collaborating closely with internal stakeholders.



Responsibilities



Oversee full-cycle project accounting for development and construction projects, including construction billing, accounts payable, and bank reconciliations Lead, manage, and mentor a team of 2-5 finance staff, providing guidance and performance support Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and supporting records Review and authorize the allocation and transfer of expenses to and from project-related accounts Review, assess, and approve overhead allocations applied to projects Analyze project financial performance, investigate variances, and prepare clear variance reports for management Oversee and ensure timely payment of contracts, change orders, and purchases in accordance with agreed-upon terms Play an active role in month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, variance analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement preparation Assist with tax compliance, including monthly tax filings Support the documentation, implementation, and monitoring of internal controls Process monthly loan draw requests and related documentation Prepare year-end audit and tax schedules for external auditors and tax advisors Review and enhance policies, processes, and procedures to drive continuous improvement in efficiency and internal controls Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders to identify, evaluate, and resolve financial discrepancies

Skills and Experience



3-5 years in core accounting roles Accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, or CA), or near completion with relevant experience Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline Experience in general contracting or construction preferred; Viewpoint Vista experience is an asset Proven ability to manage and mentor a small finance team Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills with a focus on process improvement Detail-oriented, collaborative self-starter able to manage multiple priorities independently Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders Innovative mindset with a commitment to accuracy, efficiency, and meeting deadlines
