Assistant Controller
.
Working with and reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for financial reporting, account reconciliations, completion of month end close process, audit preparation, and providing support to the finance team and other stakeholders
Responsibilities
Coordinate monthly close activities to ensure a timely and accurate close in accordance with GAAP and company deadlines.
Ensure reconciliation schedules are complete and accurate. Make adjusting entries as needed.
Maintain general ledger integrity and correctness.
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
Ensure compliance with applicable ASPE accounting standards.
Support the accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and general ledger activities.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between financial reporting and business activities.
Support the preparation and submission of required statutory filings and liaise with external regulatory bodies as needed.
Serve as a key resource and backup to the Controller, stepping in as needed for leadership and decision-making responsibilities.

Qualifications
BS/BA in accounting, finance, or relevant field
Preferred CPA Designation (or near completion) or a minimum of 3-5 years' experience as Assistant Controller or similar role.
2-3 years' experience in a public accounting firm is preferred.
Thorough knowledge and experience in the application of accounting principles, practices, and financial management.
Construction industry experience or project-based accounting is an asset.
A thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, Provincial, and local requirements regarding financial records is essential.
High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts.
Financial analysis and some strategic planning experience is an asset.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines.
Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills.
Attention to detail in all areas of work.
Advanced knowledge of MS Office and sound knowledge of ERP computer systems with the ability to adapt to and learn new software.
