Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented
Assistant Controller
to join our team. In this role, you will initially assist with and progressively take on full responsibility for a wide range of accounting functions. Working closely with the Controller, this position offers a unique opportunity to develop and expand your skills in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing the full accounting cycle, supporting a variety of financial processes and projects
Key Responsibilities:
As an Assistant Controller you will initially assist with, and progressively assume full responsibility for, a wide range of accounting functions, including but not limited to:
Managing the full accounting cycle for multiple companies, including:
- Daily cash and credit card receipt processing
- Accounts receivable monitoring and collections
- Expense classification, divisional tracking, and job costing
- Accounts payable management
- Preparation and filing of GST and PST returns
Conducting bank and credit card reconciliations.
Performing cost accounting and budget tracking.
Preparing month-end working papers
Preparing ad-hoc management reports and providing analytical support related to operational costs and margins.
Supporting capital and large maintenance projects through detailed financial oversight.
Ensuring adherence to accounting policies and procedures, maintaining compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
Delivering timely weekly and monthly financial reports to senior management
Processing and recording accounting transactions, including:
- Accruals
- Prepaid adjustments
- Capital asset recording
Managing payroll processing for approximately 45 employees, including:
- Calculating statutory holidays
- Filing source deductions, EHT, and WCB returns
- Administering employee benefit deductions
- Managing vacation pay
- Processing expense reimbursements
- Issuing Records of Employment (ROEs)
Contributing to a positive and collaborative team environment
Performing bonding-related tasks
Undertaking other duties as required by the business
Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
Professional CPA designation is required.
In-depth knowledge of accounting standards, including ASPE.
Proficiency in computerized accounting systems and MS Office. Experience with QuickBooks is highly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and maintain positive working relationships across teams.
Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks.
Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Highly motivated, proactive, and results-driven approach to work.
