Assistant Controller, Operations





Under the direction of the Controller, the Assistant Controller, Operations will be responsible for the management of Forthright Properties, including internal controls and regulatory/tax compliance.


Key Responsibilities




Support Controller in managing full cycle accounting for all operating, holding, and construction companies Lead and supervise the Properties accounting team in the Finance department Complete month-end and year-end accounting procedures including posting of standard journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and variance analysis Support Controller in setting the priorities within accounting group Ensure compliance with Provincial and Federal government reporting requirements and tax filings Participate in the creation of operational budgets and forecasts Identifying and implementing process improvements which impact customer quality and influence internal operating efficiency Support Controller in year-end audit and tax schedules for returns filed by external accountants Provide advice and guidance on all accounting matters including financial systems, record keeping, analysis and reporting Support the establishment and maintenance of internal controls Support and collaborate with Controller on implementing strategic initiatives

Education and Experience


Advanced degree in professional accounting, CPA preferred or working toward degree 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience with demonstrated experience as a Financial Controller 3+ years of overall experience leading and developing a team Excellent accounting software user and administration skills Thorough knowledge of relevant Federal, Provincial and local accounting principles and procedures Advanced experience with general ledger functions, creating financial statements, and month-end/year-end processes Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities including the ability to adapt to changing priorities and seamlessly shift focus Strong interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to delivering excellence and to continuous process improvement Excellent problem-solving skills that are expressed through critical thinking, independent decision-making, risk management, and process improvement * Experience in Property Management an asset
