Position Summary
The
Assistant Controller
supports the Operations Controller in overseeing financial control for the Mulgrave site and regional operations. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial statements, managing month-end close, preparing reports and analysis, and contributing to budgeting, forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, analytical, and able to work independently while collaborating across teams.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control
Maintain the General Ledger and perform month-end closing.
Ensure the accuracy of financial statements in accordance with KD Pharma and statutory accounting standards (IFRS).
Prepare and analyze site performance reports for management.
Maintain a clean and reconciled balance sheet.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist with budgeting and forecasting cycles.
Review and analyze operating spend on a regular basis.
Prepare financial models and reports that support decision-making.
Audit, Compliance & Regulatory
Support financial audits.
Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory filings (e.g., Statistics Canada, CRA).
Ensure intercompany transactions are reconciled each month.
Operational Finance Support
Collaborate with the IP Manager on capital expenditure (CAPEX) programs.
Maintain master data for vendors, assets, capital projects, and the General Ledger.
Perform bank reconciliations, apply customer payments, and ensure timely account clearing.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and recommend process improvements in financial reporting and control.
Participate in cross-functional projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with at least 5 years of relevant experience; OR 10 years of relevant experience without a degree.
CPA designation preferred.
Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial controls, and reporting processes.
Experience with Business Central or other ERP systems is an asset.
Technical Skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; strong proficiency in Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
Expertise in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
