What You'll Do
Financial Reporting.
Responsible for the timely, accurate and complete preparation of the Company's financial reporting on a standalone and consolidated basis. Coordinates and develops ongoing reporting development and enhancements. Ensures the integrity of the company's ERP records as it relates to the financial information. Evaluates compliance with internal controls. Advises on procedural gaps and makes recommendations to remediate.
Analyze
operational performance to plan and interprets major variances from budget. Creates ad-hoc reports and other tools for decision support, analyzing performance opportunities and trends related to customers, pricing, margin, etc. Shares findings in meaningful manner with stakeholders.
Audit management.
Plans and executes the year end and interim audits in a timely manner and be the main point of contact for auditors, ensuring a positive relationship.
Taxation.
Supports the corporate taxation process with planning, installments, and preparation of the corporate tax returns. Investigates treatment of indirect taxes and provides guidance.
Leadership.
Provides day-to-day leadership including advice, guidance, and coordination to accounting staff. Identifies and provides developmental opportunities with support of Director, Corporate Controller to the accounting team. Maintains a positive, respectful, and professional environment for all department members.
What You Bring
The Assistant Controller will have a
post-secondary education in finance or accounting,
and a minimum of
8 years proven progressive accounting experience
, with
supervisory experience being an asset
. Possession of an Accounting Designation (CPA) is beneficial; however, education and significant experience will be considered.
We are looking for someone who is a strategic thinker with strong business and financial acumen. Previous experience working in a large company with multi-entity and multi-currency consolidations will be an asset.
Additional qualifications include:
Extensive knowledge in accounting principles and practices including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE).
Demonstrated experience in preparing financial statements for management such as period-end reporting, financial highlights and preparation of management discussion and analysis.
Experience with handling corporate tax matters such as provisions, installments and facilitating federal or provincial audits as needed.
Experienced in managing a financial audit.
Effectively working independently, taking initiative, setting priorities, and seeing projects through to completion
Collaborative team player who can cultivate strong relationships and influence others, including senior leaders
Ability to work in a demanding environment with strict deadlines and tight schedules.
Experience with multiple ERP systems
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
