OLG\xe2\x80\x99s articling student program provides an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment combining public and private law and public policy, in the heart of Ontario\xe2\x80\x99s gaming industry. Articling students at OLG will work in a wide range of practice areas including commercial law, regulatory compliance, and litigation. You will be part of a busy in-house legal team and work directly with business colleagues in the areas of internet gaming, lotteries, casino gaming and charitable gaming. You will support major commercial transactions and initiatives and participate in the strategic management and resolution of complex disputes. You will learn about and support OLG\xe2\x80\x99s initiatives in the public interest, including innovation in areas including new lottery games, internet gaming, digital analytics, and sports. You will also work closely with and be mentored by lawyers at OLG who bring experience from major law firms, multi-national corporations, and provincial regulators. At the moment, OLG follows a hybrid approach of working remotely two days a week and going into our Yonge & York Mills (Toronto) location three days a week.

REQUIREMENTS

Major responsibility areas \xe2\x80\x93 some examples of what you will be doing:

Providing legal analysis and guidance to internal clients in areas of law including: commercial, marketing and advertising, criminal, gaming, technology, constitutional, administrative, real estate, intellectual property, internet, procurement, municipal, freedom of information, privacy, human rights, and employment.

Supporting commercial transactions, OLG\xe2\x80\x99s business and strategic objectives in the areas of internet gaming, sports betting and lottery, and OLG\xe2\x80\x99s social responsibility initiatives.

Assisting with the review, development and implementation of internal policies and processes addressing legal and regulatory compliance requirements, risk management measures, and industry best practices.

Working on litigation and compliance matters, including participating in strategic discussions.

Collaborating with internal counsel, business clients and OLG\xe2\x80\x99s external counsel.

Preparing and presenting briefing materials for internal clients.

Candidate qualifications - what we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for:

Interest in public service.

An ability and desire to work in a wide range of legal areas with a variety of other lawyers and business colleagues, either independently or in teams.

Enthusiasm, including for innovation, collaboration, and client service.

Excellent academic results.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

ELIGIBILITY:

Completion of a law degree (J.D. or equivalent)

Registered in the Lawyer Licensing Process with the Law Society of Ontario
