Primary function

Compensation: $62,507.00 per annum prorated for 10 months (approximately 1,202 per week) plus benefits.
Area of Search: Students eligible to article in 2024-25
Assignment: 10 month contract, start date will be July 22, 2024

Clinic Resource Office:
The CRO provides high-quality legal and other support services to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of legal action on behalf of clients of LAO-funded community legal clinics, specialty clinics, and Student Legal Services Organizations (SLSOs).

Key accountabilities

The CRO\'s services include: assistance with individual client files; creation and maintenance of publications; training for clinic and SLSO caseworkers; court and tribunal litigation support services; and assisting inter-clinic working groups with the identification of systemic issues, research, law reform, and litigation strategies. The CRO focuses on the areas of law that most affect clinic and SLSO clients, such as:

  • social assistance (Ontario Disability Support Program or Ontario Works);
  • housing (issues between tenants and landlords, or co-ops and their members);
  • Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security;
  • employment insurance;
  • human rights;
  • federal pandemic benefits; and
  • Canada Child Tax Benefit matters.
Required skills & experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice or public interest work.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Solid understanding of the mission of Legal Aid Ontario.
  • Proven understanding in providing excellent client service to vulnerable populations such as racialized communities, Indigenous communities, youth, and those experiencing mental health or addiction challenges and/or homelessness
