Art City is seeking an energetic and caring individual to join our program team. The Art Educator position is an exciting opportunity to lead community-based artistic programming in St. James Town. Educators will develop art education curriculum and teaching aids, plan, prepare and facilitate lessons, mentor students and supervise classes. Art Educators will work closely with the Executive Director to support additional organizational priorities.
Art City in St. James Town (Art City) is a much-loved neighbourhood-based arts organization that has served the St. James Town community for 25 years. We provide free arts education programs and believe that art has the power to empower children and youth. We use art to foster a sense of self-worth and confidence, encourage positive self-expression and exploration, and nurture community. We are passionate about using art as a tool to build resilience.
Educators will work with a close-knit team to create program content, teach art projects, provide one-on-one and group support, maintain a safe and warm learning environment, and contribute to broader strategic priorities including social media content development. Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will have the skills necessary to deliver arts programming to children and youth. They will enjoy community-based, hands-on programming in a diverse community.
Requirements:
Passion for arts/arts programming
At least 3 years experience working with children/youth (ages 5-15)
Responsible independent and team-player
Flexibility to work both in-person and virtually, full-time (~32/week)
Familiarity with social media platforms, video editing and youtube an asset
Familiarity with Canva an asset
Vulnerable Sector Check or willingness to acquire
First-Aid Certification (CPR-C) or willingness to acquire
Responsibilities:
Independently plan curriculum and develop related teaching aids and materials
Mentor a class of 30+ children/youth (5-16 years) through Social-Emotional-Artistic Learning and foster Art City's values
Plan, prepare and facilitate relevant community programming and events
Manage inventory of classroom and teaching supplies
Maintain studio and classroom space to manage risk effectively and ensure safety of all users
Collaborate with and delegate volunteers
Support social media management and content development
Assist ED with special projects related to strategic priorities
