Signal Operator All candidates will go through either part-time or full-time Basic Military Qualification, as well as full-time Signal Operator training at a Canadian Forces Training Centre.
Signal Operators provide fast, reliable, wireless communication and information systems using voice and data systems. They are also part of a larger team that supports Army units and the Canadian Armed Forces with communication and information services throughout Canada and around the world. Our Signal Operators have the opportunity to work with a variety of other army units including infantry, artillery, and armoured, providing communications capabilities in the field.
Signal Operators expertly install, remove, troubleshoot, and operate communication information networks such as:
Wired and wireless communication and information systems
Radio and microwave broadband technology
Fibre optic and copper wire equipment
Voice and data systems
Mobile satellite installation and operation
Operation and maintenance of a wide range of weapon systems, vehicles, survival gear, and personal defensive equipment
Use of sophisticated equipment for field communication, navigation, and vehicle maneuvers
Minimum Requirements You must meet the following minimum requirements for a career in the Army Reserves:
18 years of age (16 with parental consent while maintaining status as a full-time student)
Canadian citizenship or Canadian Permanent Residency
Completion of the provincial requirements for Grade 10
Related Civilian Occupations While you do not require any prior experience or knowledge, your Army Reserve training can help prepare you for a future civilian career. Current members of 39 Signal Regiment are employed as:
