The Recreation Facility Operator is responsible for the maintenance and preparation of ice surfaces for arenas and the curling rink, as well as overseeing staff in the setup, takedown, and upkeep of the facility for both ice and dryland events. This role ensures the facility is safe, clean, and ready for public use, supporting a variety of recreational programs and community events throughout the year.
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION
Installs, maintains, and removes ice, ensuring facility readiness for various activities.
Operates and maintains ice resurfacing equipment (e.g., Zamboni) for hockey arenas.
Prepares curling sheets prior to draws by scraping, cleaning, pebbling, clipping or dragging ice.
Cleans ice surface including rocks, rock beds, hacks, non-playing areas safeguarding the players has a clear, clean and safe club to curl.
Monitors all ice conditions daily and performs regular inspections and repairs to ensure quality and safety.
Performs ice installation and removal, including painting and marking as required.
Maintains refrigeration systems and monitor temperatures and humidity levels.
Assists with or performs minor repairs and routine and preventative maintenance of the ice plant equipment and summer maintenance.
Maintains and stores all ice-making/curling equipment, inventory of supplies and equipment.
Provides guidance, training/onboarding and assists with task assignment and oversight of operators.
Interacts professionally with facility users, addressing inquiries, concerns and emergencies as required.
May be required to perform duties outside of their primary responsibilities, including the Operator 1 and 2, Facility Attendant, or Custodial duties to support team or organizational goals and evolving business needs.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Grade 12 or equivalent
Curling Operator 1&2 certification
Arena Operator 1&2 certification
2-3 years' experience performing similar work in a recreation environment
Building Operator Level 1 & 2 are an asset
Strong leadership, communication and customer services skills
Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License
Clear RCMP Based Criminal Record check
Standard First Aid and CPR
