VanderWal Homes & Commercial Group Inc. is seeking a technical and detail-oriented

Architectural Technologist / Design Technician

to join our in-house design team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between architectural concepts and construction reality. You will be responsible for interpreting consultant drawings and creating the precise shop and fabrication drawings required for our build process.

Key Responsibilities:

Drafting & Modeling:

Utilize

Revit and AutoCAD

to create detailed 3D models and 2D drawing sets.

Shop & Fabrication Drawings:

Produce accurate shop drawings for consultant review and detailed fabrication drawings for production/construction.

Technical Interpretation:

Read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP consultant drawings to ensure coordination and constructability.

Collaboration:

Work closely with the design team, project managers, and production staff to resolve design conflicts before they reach the field.

Quality Control:

Review drawings for accuracy, code compliance, and adherence to company standards.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education:

Diploma in Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.

Software Proficiency:

Advanced proficiency in

Autodesk Revit

and

AutoCAD

is required.

Technical Knowledge:

Strong ability to read and understand complex consultant drawing sets (Structural and Architectural).

Experience:

Previous experience producing shop drawings or fabrication details is highly preferred.

Soft Skills:

A strong team player with excellent communication skills. You must be able to take direction well and collaborate on problem-solving.

Nice to Haves (Assets):

Experience with Cold-Formed Steel (CFS) or wood framing design. Knowledge of Ontario Building Code (OBC). Experience with other BIM software (e.g., Vertex BD).
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $40,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
