The Opportunity
The owner of a large real estate development company is looking for an Architectural Engineering Technologist, with strong accreditation and experience, who has worked on high-rise and mid-rise concrete residential and mixed use (residential and commercial) buildings with strong design capabilities and is open to the idea of not just sitting in an office all day every day. The person will have the initiative to take a project through to construction documents by working with multiple different stake holders in a rewarding experience as a key member of the owner's team.The Role
This role will have you taking part and dealing with the owner, consultants (architect and engineers) and construction team on various aspects of design. The individual must be independent and have the initiative to get things done by taking ownership of the role and meeting consultants as necessary. You will also conduct quality control checks on technical documents produced, such as shop drawing review; prepare and modify architectural documents, produce sketches, floor plans for residential suites and commercial units as necessary. Detailing, producing as-builts, elevations, sections, etc. and prepare 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings. You will collaborate in the production of construction drawings and specifications.
Your responsibilities and Requirements
Extremely good working knowledge of in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.)
A working knowledge of the principles of architecture
Understanding of residential high rise construction practices and techniques.
Working knowledge of the National Building Code and Province Specific to NS
Work independently and as part of a group to assess what is required for each project and follow it through to completion of all drawings ready for construction.
Assess status of projects and liaise with owner, architects, engineers, as required to be able to move projects along.
Ability to design and reconfigure residential suites and floorplans for high-rise and midrise residential and mixed use buildings, including barrier free design
Ability to prepare detailed design of interior plans within suites for all finishes
Ability to prepare architectural designs, plans and specifications
Ability to prepare complex schematic drawings from rough sketches and oral instructions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interact professionally with industry authorities, trades and other consultants
A working knowledge of exterior materials
Ability to conceptualize details in three dimensions
Ability to work under deadlines
Ability to do material take-offs and compile data for the owner for pricing purposes
Ability to interpret architectural, structural and mechanical drawings, if required, for the purpose of design of residential suites and floorplans and to identify conflicts
Ability to produce commercial floorplans and detailing as necessary
Experience with 3D rendering applications is an asset
Experience in Interior Design is an asset
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly, MS Excel, MS Word and MS Outlook
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and 3D rendering softwares is an asset
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and ensure documentation is correct;
Strong work ethic, ability to work efficiently and with accuracy; and
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Desired Skills & Experience
A recognized degree/diploma in Interior Design or Architecture or Architectural Engineering Technology from an accredited University or College
Minimum 5 years' experience in Design and drafting of residential and commercial properties
Driver's License
