Balan Engineering is a civil and structural engineering company providing design solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
We are currently recruiting for a Civil Engineering Technologist at our Tillsonburg Office with the following responsibilities and qualifications.
Responsibilities
Supports the planning, design, and construction of civil projects such as buildings and infrastructure by preparing and reviewing technical drawings and specifications, conducting site surveys, inspecting construction, and ensuring projects meet quality and code standards. Their role involves technical data collection, report writing, basic estimates for site plan submissions and coordinating with Engineers and contractors.
Conduct and supervise field surveys, topographic inspections, and technical investigations of land, drainage, water systems, and structures.
Monitor and inspect construction projects.
Work with the Engineer to provide technical support throughout construction.
Prepare quotes, contract documents, tender documents, and other administrative documents.
Conduct field reviews and prepare site reports.
Understand and interpret drawings including structural, architectural and site plans and prepare basic AutoCAD sketches.
Examine drawings for conformity and errors.
Coordinate work assignments, monitor progress, and provide feedback to team members to optimize productivity and quality of work.

Qualifications
College Diploma or Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or a related field.
Experience with field surveys, construction layout, and operating survey equipment like total stations and GPS.

Proficient in MS Office products.
Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and familiarity with engineering principles and practices.
Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Willingness to perform field work, including topographic survey, data collection, site inspections etc.
Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
Experience with a variety of structure sizes, materials and types such as commercial, industrial, residential.
Experience with site plan layout.
An understanding of and excellent working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and an understanding of other industry regulations and standards (Canadian Standards Association Regulations).
Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
