Position Summary: Working with the Manager, Architectural Services this position coordinates the architectural aspects of GTAA facilities and provides guidance to the annual capital program. The incumbent will evaluate the suitability of existing facilities and structures for new construction or major renovations and upgrades and own the architectural tasks in the Engineering and Architectural Services Department. Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and update design guidelines and Architectural standards for GTAA and tenant spaces, and help Building & Maintaining the Architectural Services knowledge & data base
  • Develop conceptual designs and solutions for new projects, facility alterations and upgrades, and use the latest Architectural technology including BIM and Scan to BIM
  • Direct and conduct surveys for existing site and building conditions by measurements, photography and client/user interviews
  • Leads, directs and monitors the work of consultants for externally driven work
  • Prepare designs, working drawings, cost estimates, outline specifications and tender documents
  • Confer with administrative personnel in client departments on the development of new facilities and provide alternative solutions to meet GTAA needs
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients and internal partners
  • Validate project initiatives and identify project requirements in consultations with the Project Manager
  • Review technical reports, research papers and other building industry publications to note current trends, practices and processes that may support improved services and enhance the GTAA standards
  • Participate in delivering Business Cases and Restoration Programs
  • Reviews reports, studies and project submissions prepared externally or internally for compliance with GTAA guidelines and conducts facility alteration permit reviews
  • Liaise with Operational and Maintenance team to accommodate and facilitate operation needs of end users
  • Monitor and mentor the architectural technology team on the best industry practices and must attend training courses and professional Continuing Education programs to maintain professional designation
  • Examines work procedures and recommending improved procedures and methods.
This is a unionized position with an hourly wage range of $49.01, based on a 37.5 hour work week. Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree in Architecture and be a licensed member of the Ontario Association of Architects
  • Minimum of six (6) years of combined experience in architectural planning and design, interior design, preparation of contract documents, construction, project management principles, contract administration and directing consultations and contractors.
  • Experience with projects of a complex nature involving additions, alterations, renovation work and building maintenance.
  • Must meet the security level designated for the position
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of architectural principles and practices and building/science systems
  • Knowledge of National, and Provincial Codes, Municipal and other technical guidelines, standards and regulations
  • Knowledge of airport planning
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices
  • Knowledge of \xe2\x80\x98green\xe2\x80\x99 buildings and \xe2\x80\x98smart\xe2\x80\x99 buildings and LEED Certificate is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving skills and effective interpersonal skills
  • Time management skills, multitasking skills, and excellent communication and writing skills
  • Knowledge in Building Information Modelling (BIM)
  • Knowledge of the Architectural Specifications
