AECOM is seeking Archaeology Supervisors to be based out of multiple Ontario offices. This is a leadership position for teams conducting outdoor physical labour across the province in all weather conditions. Please be advised that LIUNA has been certified by the Labour Relations Board to bargain on behalf of persons in the above noted position. The parties have entered into a collective bargaining agreement and any candidate who is hired into the noted role will be kept informed of any changes to the terms & conditions of their employment because of that process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs various responsibilities for a specific technical group or department.
  • Has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments.
  • Generally requires multi-disciplinary knowledge of science.
  • Plans and develops scientific tasks concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation and development of novel concepts and approaches.
  • Maintains liaison with units within the organization and individuals inside and outside of the organization.
  • Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field. Work at this level usually requires extensive progressive experience.
  • Works under minimal supervision. Supervision received is essentially administrative with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Supervises group of scientists and/or technicians, coordinating activities of the unit.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • BA/BS in archaeology or related field + 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid Research or Professional class license issued by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Multiculturalism (MCM)
  • Valid Driver\'s License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Must be able to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork which includes prolonged standing, repetitive motions such as bending, lifting (up to 40lbs), squatting, twisting, and shoveling using hand trowels or shovels.
  • Must be able to lead a team to work quickly while maintaining high quality standards.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of conditions including cold or hot temperatures and light rain as well as traverse rough terrain.
  • Firm understanding of MCM\'s Standards and Guidelines for Consultant Archaeologists, and ability to practically apply those standards when making fieldwork decisions.
  • Artifact identification skills & experience for the identification of both Indigenous & Euro-Canadian material
  • Reliable transportation to & from assigned office or designated project meet spot.
  • Experience managing people, facilitating effective communication between the office and field.
  • Ability to work out of town, across Ontario, for extended periods of time (overnight stays).
  • Expected to prioritize Health & Safety & follow all AECOM procedures and requirements of the project safety plan. Must wear always required personal protective equipment which can include but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, safety vest and work gloves.
  • 1+ field seasons independently supervising teams during Stage 2-4 archaeological assessments under own issued Research License required
  • Must be able to perform strenuous archaeological fieldwork which includes prolonged standing, repetitive motions such as bending, lifting (up to 40lbs), squatting, twisting, and shovelling using hand trowels or shovels.
  • Ability to work outside in a variety of conditions including cold or hot temperatures and light rain as well as traverse rough terrain.
  • Experience operating high precision GPS & Total Station equipment and data recording programs (i.e., Fulcrum & ArcGIS Collector)
  • Expected to prioritize & lead in health & safety & follow all AECOM procedures
  • First Aid Certification an asset
