The YMCA of Central East Ontario operates out of three major Health, Fitness and Recreation facilities as well as approximately 20 community locations. Position Summary:



The Aquatics Specialist position is a 3-month contract. The role supports the delivery of aquatic programs by providing hands-on leadership to staff, ensuring safe and well-run operations, and maintaining compliance with YMCA Aquatics Policies. This role combines administrative and on-deck responsibilities, including staff supervision, program coordination, and active involvement in instruction. Working closely with the Regional Supervisor of Aquatics and Camp, the Aquatics Specialist helps foster a strong team culture and positive member experience.

Responsibilities:



Providing excellent customer service and responding promptly to the needs of all pool users; informing the Regional Supervisor of Aquatics & Camp of patron concerns Provide, positive, hands-on leadership to the staff team Exercise good judgement in conflict resolution Ensuring that all aquatics staff are prepared and ready for their shifts, that programs start and end on time and instructors are meeting program quality standards Ensure that all program areas are staffed appropriately to meet participant ratios Ensuring all aquatics staff and volunteers are adhering to all Aquatics Policies and Procedures Ensure all staff certifications are up to date and accurate Do staff evaluations and give developmental feedback Participating in all required YMCA training, recertification's and in-service trainings With support from the Regional Supervisor of Aquatics & Camp, ensure adequate shift coverage for lifeguards, swim instructors, aqua fit instructors and aquatic leadership instructors 15-20 hours of on deck hours, team leading, lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons, aqua fit and aquatic leadership courses Support the Regional Supervisor of Aquatics & Camp with additional duties as assigned Support fostering and developing a strong culture and sense of community within the Aquatics department Take a lead on Swim to Survive and Splash Programs

What you will bring to the position:



National Lifeguard - Pool Certifications (Waterfront considered an asset) Excellent oral and written communication skills, including intermediate use of technology

Experience:



Previous experience in a leadership capacity

Working Conditions:



Evening and weekend availability required Requirement of Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certifications Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
