Course Description: In-depth examination of a topic in Communication.
Topic: Public Relations Work in a Hyperconnected World
Study of some of the key issues and work challenges/opportunities public relations and communications practitioners face. This course is based on critical theories of the hypermodern, hyperconnected and socially accelerated society. Topics include working conditions, impact of social media, misinformation and incivility online, risks and crises, stress and technostress, hybrid and remote work, the right to disconnect, use of work technology, work life balance and the future of PR practice. Upon conclusion of this course participants will better understand the social environment in which public relations practitioners and the practice operate, the impact this has on practitioners and the practice of PR, and what strategies can be available to restore balance and equality in an 'always on' society.

Requirements:
Ph.D. in communication or a closely related discipline. Professional expertise and teaching experience in the subject matter is required. Research and publications in the area of the course preferred.
