Apprentice Welders (1st & 2nd Year)

Suncor Site in Fort McMurray, Alberta

Description

• The schedule is 10 days, 4 days off, 10-hour days with a possibility of moving to 12-hour days.
• Please keep in mind, travel to site is always Mondays to start Tuesdays and travel home is either AFTER working a full day on the following Thursday OR you can opt to stay in camp for an additional night and travel home on the Friday morning
• Camp accommodations with $250 travel up at the beginning of the job and $250 travel home at the very end of the job.
• Bussing is available from camp to job site and vice versa
• You are responsible for getting to site and home on your own
• Must possess active apprenticeship card with any provincial governing body; we will need a copy of this
• Must be able to successfully pass a weld test, D&A screen and Fit test for a North 7700 half mask (conditions of employment) prior to being hired on

• Weld in different positions (horizontal, vertical, flat, and overhead)
• Grind welds and structure to maintain clean, neat appearance of tank
• Fit horizontal and vertical sheets for proper welding application
• Weld tacking horizontal and vertical seams
• Weld tacking flat, bottom steel sheets
• Able to read and effectively communicate measurements
• Loading and offloading field equipment and material shipments from trucks
• Willing and able to work under supplied air (SCBA, SABA)
• Shared labour and safety watch duties
• Willing and able to enter and work in confined spaces (some tank cleaning activities, welding, grinding etc. inside the tank)
• Can take direction and willing to learn about the tank industry
• Willing and able to work at heights and in aerial lift platforms; must be willing and able to work safely around mobile equipment
• Other duties as required by site supervision

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret prints and drawings
• Ability to communicate and relay information with Foreman and co-workers effectively, safely, and respectfully
• Ability to lift objects weighing a maximum of 50 pounds
• Ability to lift objects overhead and assist in carrying loads in assistance with co-workers
• Must have a positive outlook; willing to work as a team and independently
• Must possess hard work ethic and willingness to learn new things
• Previous experience working at Suncor Baseplant is an asset
• Must possess active apprenticeship card through any provincial governing body
• Must be able to pass weld test in Leduc Alberta
• Exposure to extreme cold, heat, poor ventilation, fumes, and gases is possible; noise level is high and includes sounds of normal construction equipment
