Role Summary
The Apprentice Electrician supports electrical project execution across commercial and residential job sites. This role focuses on hands-on learning under certified journeymen and foremen, with progressive responsibility as competencies develop. Ideal candidates are driven, coachable, safety-focused, and eager to advance through BC's electrical apprenticeship program while contributing to VIS's expanding portfolio of work.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems in commercial and residential settings
Support wiring for lighting, power distribution, EV chargers, and mechanical equipment hook-ups
Help with conduit bending, cable pulling, rough-ins, device terminations, and panel support work
Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites
Follow site plans, electrical drawings, and instructions from supervisors
Adhere to all safety protocols, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), PPE use, and WorkSafeBC regulations
Support material handling, tool organization, and parts pick-ups from suppliers/wholesalers
Participate in daily safety huddles and project briefings
Track learning progress and complete apprenticeship hours reporting when required
Ask questions, observe techniques, and apply feedback quickly
Safety & Compliance Expectations
100% compliance with WorkSafeBC and VIS safety standards
Immediate reporting of hazards, incidents, or near-misses
Correct and consistent use of PPE (gloves, glasses, boots, hard hat, arc-rated gear when required)
Follow all electrical safety practices and never work on live systems unless directly supervised and authorized
Maintain good standing in VIS safety onboarding and training requirements
Required Qualifications
Registered (or eligible to register) in BC Electrical Apprenticeship Program
Valid Class 5 Driver's License
Basic understanding of electrical theory, tools, and job-site expectations
Ability to lift 50 lbs, work on ladders, and perform physical tasks safely
Reliable transportation to Victoria job sites
Strong work ethic and commitment to learning
