SUMMARY:



Newterra is solving the world's most impactful water problems from providing drinking water for communities to cleaning hard to treat effluent for reuse or return to the environment. The Applications Engineer Manager at Newterra plays a key role in this mission of providing potable and municipal water treatment systems to address these needs. This position leads a team of application engineers to collaborates with sales, engineering, and procurement to tailor solutions for clients. Responsibilities include assigning work, monitoring progress, reviewing costs estimates and proposals, evaluating customer requirements, defining system design features, costing solutions accurately, and preparing bidding packages.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



1. Lead a group of 3-6 engineers who produce cost estimates and proposals in response to customer's needs.

2. Review customer specifications, resolve issues, clarify requirements, and budget for non-standard requirements.

3. Work with the sales and operations teams to develop commercial strategies for competitive projects and document strategy sessions.

4. Verify designs from the process design group meets client project requirements.

5. Collaborate with suppliers and procurement to obtain component and equipment costs.

6. Draft process flow diagrams and basic layout drawings. Aid in improving drawing templates and standard offerings.

7. Prepare proposals including technical equipment details, drawings, influent parameters, discharge criteria, clarifications, customer technical questionnaires, and appendices.

8. Work with the sales team and supervisors to manage bid submission information. Estimate project schedules. Respond to customer questions.

9. Lead or heavily contribute to the developing new or existing tools, products, and processes as part of continuous improvement initiatives.

10. Be a source of water systems knowledge and mentor junior level applications engineers.

11. Perform cost estimate and proposal reviews for simple and complex systems.



OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Responsible for performing duties in a safe manner and promoting safety in accordance with Newterra's safety policies and procedures. Comply with Quality Management Systems in accordance with Newterra's internal quality standards. Complete all responsibilities while ensuring adherence to Newterra's Delegation of Authority. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, Etc.) More than 10 years' experience in designing and budgeting water treatment systems. Substantial experience in application areas: designing potable water and wastewater systems (MBR, SBR, MBBR) Travel availability at < 5% annually.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and the ability to learn new computer applications quickly. Ability to work independently and work collaboratively with others to achieve a common goal. Excellent written and verbal communication and attention to detail.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



Regularly required to sit for prolonged periods; required to stand, walk, and use business equipment daily such as a computer, copier, telephone, etc.; occasionally required to reach overhead, bend, and lift objects of up to 15 lbs. Complex thinking and analysis required with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Preferential consideration will be given to candidates that can accept hybrid position at one of Newterra's Offices especially Toronto. Remote work is possible with adequate management and technical experience. Generally, works in office environments, however, the candidate may be required to visit client sites and be exposed to indoor or outdoor industry specific elements.
