Who You Are:




You are a seasoned federal government communicator with at least 5 years federal government communications experience. You are a strategic thinker, who is experienced in communications planning. You are skilled at prioritizing your work and ensuring it fits within the larger team, and are a strong independent worker. You write well, excel in a team environment, and focus on building strong client relationships. Experience with complex communications programs and files (including web, social media, outreach, internal communications) and issues management is considered an asset.



What we're looking for






The Strategic Communications Directorate is looking for communications advisors. We are a busy, close-knit and social team in a smaller, arms-length agency. What makes us unique is that we are also communication regulators, as outlined in REGDOC-3.2.1, Public Information and Disclosure. Public information is a key element of nuclear safety; we require our licensees to develop and implement information programs to keep their communities up-to-date on their operations. We oversee and evaluate their compliance, using our communications expertise to help regulate the nuclear industry.



Our team is looking for communications professionals who have federal government experience in

one or more

of the following areas: strategic, issues-based communications, corporate/internal communications, and/or regulatory communications/media relations.. Additional experience in digital communications (web and social media) and creative and production will be considered an asset.

Essential Qualifications:



Education:





Bachelors degree from a recognized university in communications, journalism, or public affairs or an equivalent combination of education (minimum college diploma), experience and relevant job knowledge.




Language Requirements:

Experience:





Providing federal government analysis, strategic communications advice and recommendations to client/partners and senior management. Leading the development and implementation of communication strategies, plans and tools for complex communication priorities. Building and managing client relationships. Project managing the communication lifecycle using strategic thinking and careful planning, ensuring successful implementation and evaluation. Developing and/or overseeing the production of a wide range of communications products and activities. Writing, developing and project managing a variety of communications products.


Knowledge of:





Government of Canada expectations and priorities from Privy Council Office and Treasury Board Secretariat. Government of Canada communications-related policies and procedures. Communications programs such as media relations, internal communications, advertising, outreach, web and social media. Awareness of best practices within each program. Preparation of communications plans and strategies in response to a variety of communication opportunities and issues. Communications best practices and trends and how they help an organization meet its mandate


Ability to:





Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.

Asset Qualification:



Experience working in a science-based organization Experience working in a regulatory body Experience working with senior management or Executive Team members Experience managing issues, including media responses Experience in digital communications (web and social media) and creative and production Understanding and ability to write for different audiences and platforms, both short and long-form (i.e., social media, web content, information sheets, key messages, media responses, news releases, internal briefing notes, etc.), prioritizing plain language to facilitate understanding.

Operational Needs:




All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.

Overtime: Some overtime may be required.

Positions may be part of a mandatory on-call program.
