Who You Are & What You'll Do




Are you seeking a role that offers personal growth, visibility, and the opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers? Whether you're early in your journey or looking to expand your expertise, the Commission Registry team at the CNSC provides a unique environment to contribute to meaningful regulatory work and tribunal modernization.




At the

REG5 level

, you will gain broad organizational insight and play a key role in supporting the Commission and its evolving agenda. This includes engaging with high-profile licensing applications and a variety of Commission meeting items. You'll draft records of decision and meeting minutes following public hearings and meetings. You'll contribute to tribunal modernization initiatives while working directly with the President, Commission Members, and the executive team. Your strong technical writing skills and attention to detail will be vital in producing materials for diverse audiences. You're known for your professionalism, discretion, and collaborative spirit, and you bring a solid understanding of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and the CNSC's mandate.




At the

REG6 level

, your role expands to include more complex and technical responsibilities. You'll research and analyze administrative law, regulatory instruments, scientific topics, and current issues to support Commission Members in their decision-making. You'll provide technical advice to CNSC staff on regulatory documents and processes. You thrive on solving problems, ensuring procedural integrity, and contributing to the smooth operation of Commission proceedings--including through active participation in dry runs and strategic planning sessions.

Essential Qualifications:



Education:

University degree in science or engineering or a combination of education, experience and job knowledge



Language Requirements:

Experience:





REG5:





Producing high-quality written reports, with an emphasis on attention to detail


Summarizing technical information clearly and concisely


Working with management, executives and/or Commission members


Analyzing complex issues and conducting research


REG6:





Working in a regulated industry, administrative tribunal or quasi-judicial administrative tribunal, ideally in a science-related field


Reading, understanding and summarizing complex technical documents


Preparing comprehensive written reports and/or meeting summaries


Carrying out research projects, preparing written reports of that work and communicating results


Participating in meetings with Commission members, executive staff and/or appointed representatives


Knowledge of:





REG5:





The requirements set out in the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, its regulations and supporting documentation


The nuclear industry and CNSC's mandate and role as Canada's nuclear authority


Effective technical writing and research methods


REG6:





The CNSC legislative environment, including the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, the Impact Assessment Act, the Rules of Procedure, the Commission By-Laws, the delegated authorities given to CNSC staff, the General Regulations, and other Regulations under the NSCA


Research methodologies and analysis techniques designed to support high quality research, document preparation, effective communication and presentations


Nuclear and energy sectors


National and international current affairs, incidents and issues impacting nuclear energy and materials and the mandate of the CNSC


Ability to:





Strategic and analytical thinking


Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Asset Qualification:



REG5:





Knowledge of radiation protection and environmental protection principles


Knowledge of current affairs, incidents and issues involving nuclear energy and materials worldwide


Knowledge of nuclear reactors, uranium mines, radioactive waste management facilities and accelerators


REG6:





Experience managing projects


Experience working with specialists to produce communications tools and public documents


Experience building trust relationships with members of the public, senior management, client/stakeholder groups, legal counsel, contractors and staff

Operational Needs:




All CNSC staff are subject to the Mobility Directive.




This position may require occasional travel.




Overtime: Some overtime may be required.
