Position Summary
The Animal Control Officer enforces municipal animal control by-laws, the Dog Owners' Liability Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. D.16, and related provincial legislation. This is a fast-paced, public-facing role requiring professionalism, de-escalation skills, safe animal handling, and strict adherence to legislation and safety protocols.
Key Duties
Respond to and investigate complaints (stray dogs, barking, bites, dangerous dogs)
Safely capture, transport, and impound animals
Issue Provincial Offence Notices, Part I and Part III proceedings
Prepare court documents, disclosure packages, and testify in court
Complete detailed occurrence reports, case files, and notebook entries
Communicate professionally with the public in confrontational or emotional situations
Follow biosecurity, safety, and use-of-force protocols
Required Qualifications & Skills
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
Valid Ontario Class "G" driver's licence with clean driver abstract
Satisfactory criminal record and vulnerable sector check
Ability to safely handle aggressive dogs and work outdoors in all weather
Strong verbal/written communication and de-escalation skills
Police Foundations or related education an asset
Previous animal control / by-law / security experience an asset (training provided)

Working Conditions
Full-time with flexible scheduling and on-call shifts required (up to 13-hour shifts / 55 hours per week maximum undersigned ESA agreements). Outdoor work in all weather.

Pay: $19.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
