The Capital Markets and Factor Investing Department (CMF) invests assets globally in public equities, fixed income securities, currencies, commodities, and derivatives, and manages the engagement of investment managers and co-investments in public market securities.

The Systematic Strategies Group (SSG) group within the Capital Markets and Factor Investing department develops and manages systematic investment strategies across global markets spanning equities, fixed income, commodities, currencies, and volatility. SSG invests in absolute return strategies as well as long-only strategies, designed to provide a diversifying return stream to the total fund.

We are currently recruiting for SSG for a twelve-month opportunity beginning May 2023. Students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate co-op programs, or non-co-op programs and those pursuing their professional experience year (PEY) and individuals who have graduated in April 2022 or later from an undergraduate or advanced degree program in a quantitative discipline, such as Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance or Math are eligible to apply.

The work done will vary by role/team, but will broadly include:

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the management of multi-asset systematic investment portfolio
  • Assisting Portfolio Managers in the development and implementation of portfolio analytics that produce value added insight into the risk and return characteristics of the portfolio
  • Opportunity to contribute to portfolio management topics including (but not limited to): portfolio construction and management, back testing, and transaction cost analysis
Other Responsibilities:
  • Assisting in deep dive analysis of implemented strategies and portfolio performance
  • Facilitating day-to-day activities on the desk such as the reporting of performance, risk, and positioning of a suite of factor portfolios
  • Ad-hoc projects analyzing and making recommendations on topics such as investment research, data engineering, and portfolio engineering
Qualifications

Position Requirements
  • The ideal candidate is either i) enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate co-op program, ii) enrolled in a non-co-op program and pursuing a professional experience year (PEY), or iii) has graduated in April 2022 or later from an undergraduate or advanced degree program, in a quantitative discipline such as computer Science, economics, engineering, finance or math.
  • Strong programming skills, preferably in Python
  • Empirical research experience analyzing large data sets
  • Interest in capital markets and investment management
  • Knowledge of financial instruments (e.g., equities, futures, swaps or options) is an asset
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and an interest in working in a dynamic collaborative environment.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
