Analyst, Portfolio Operations (12-Month Contract)The OpportunityThis position provides support to Investment Finance units including, but not limited to Investment Operations, Performance & Risk Analytics, and Compliance.The successful candidate requires an in-depth background in Finance Operations processes and a high level of knowledge of derivatives products.This role supports the direct operation of the unit. It also participates in the production support and change management of various straight through processing and order management systems. Other duties include investigating breaks, troubleshooting, ad hoc projects and other duties as required. From time to time this role could assume review responsibilities of other staff members work.This individual will collaborate with members of Investment Technology and Investments as well as external clients, service providers, consultants and vendors in the delivery of business as usual and projects, to meet the Plan\'s changing requirements.Critical duties must be carried out and completed same day. This position carries a high degree of responsibility as the dollar value of transactions is significant and errors can result in large losses for the fund which may not be recoverable.Who you\'ll work withThis position reports to the Manager, Capital Markets Operations.What you\'ll doExecute daily work within Finance Operations unit: (40%)Complete individual/team\xe2\x80\x99s critical priorities for the day including trade confirmation, settlement, valuation and reconciliation of Derivatives products.Participate in the production support of various processes and systemsCo-ordinate work to meet deadlinesIdentify, analyze, respond to and resolve issues and problemsDemonstrate "Expert User" status in understanding department\xe2\x80\x99s processes and systemsDetermine and carry out appropriate solutionsProvide assistance to the team on complex issuesShare knowledge with other team membersOccasionally review daily work of the teamBack up team members during absencesEnsure up to date documentationVerify information and uphold internal controls: (20%)Ensure internal control standards (a.k.a KOC and KFC) are being metEnsure completeness and accuracy of informationCheck and reconcile information to ensure accuracyFollow up on and resolve discrepanciesOccasionally review files and information prepared by othersEnsure up to date documentationKey contributor to projects for the unit under the guidance of the Manager: (10%)Carry out key tasks of the projectsLiaise with other teams (IT, Investments etc) as needed projectsDirect activities and tasks related to system upgrades, new releases, and bug fixesContribute to identification and carrying out improvements for the unit, including assisting Manager to research, identify and document new markets, products, processes or systems: (10%)Assist in development/implementation of new processes/systemsCollaborate on recommendations for process changes and improvementsTest new modules and/or functionality to ensure it meets department requirementsDirect initiatives to create efficiencies and effective day to day processesOwn components of change management or process improvementsDevelop and implement tests plansEnsure up to date documentationProduce reports: (5%)Generate standard reportsAnalyze requests for non-standard reportsDesign and deliver reportsService internal and external clients: (5%)Provide information and services to internal and external clientsRespond to inquiries and requests from internal and external clientsDeal with internal and external clients in a professional and timely mannerParticipate in development of new requirements or processes requested by clientsDeal with internal and external suppliers: (5%)Collaborates with Technology, Investments, service providers, consultants and/or vendors in the delivery of solutionsManage relationships to ensure high quality service by suppliers.Request/provide information as needed to established to Plan\'s operationsMaintain knowledge of issues affecting Plan\'s operationsOther duties as requestedWhat you\'ll needRelevant university degree (such as Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science) or equivalent relevant experience with Finance Operations processesRequires an individual with in-depth experience in Finance Operations processes (1-2 years or more)Requires an individual with relative experience in asset servicing, valuations and investment accounting for Capital Markets instruments, including DerivativesExperience investigating and explaining PnLExperience working directly with Portfolio ManagersProficient knowledge and experience working with SCDExcellent analytical skills and the ability to think through problems, assess a variety of factors and recommend a solutionExcellent quantitative and computer skills (Excel, VBA, Python and SQL), including an understanding of database conceptsGood background skills and knowledge of accounting and reconciliation processesMust be able to work to deadlines, adapt to a rapidly changing environment and sustain high productivity levelsMust be extremely detail oriented, organized and thoroughSelf starter, confident, innovative, team playerGood interpersonal and communication skillsMust be able to effectively deal with internal and external clients and suppliersAbility to work with minimum
