Why is this role important?

As a valued member of the CIHI team, your work will have a pivotal role in the evolution of Canada's Health Care system. The Analyst, Pharmaceuticals, will play a key role in providing data and analytical support to the National Prescription Drug Utilization Information System (NPDUIS) and National System for Incident Reporting (NSIR). This may involve data management, assessing data quality, data analysis and interpretation, as well as supporting the preparation of analytical products and indicators, including synthesis of information and critical review of external sources of information such as literature review and environmental scans. Analysts will participate in department/branch projects and initiatives, as well as other meetings and special projects as required.

What you'll do

1. Conducts data management activities including writing and updating statistical code required for the development, computation, analysis, and/or validation of key deliverables. This may include leading the execution of test strategies / test cases to ensure adherence with CIHI's corporate information quality framework.

2. Works with the Lead and other members of the analytical team to support the production of key deliverables for internal and external dissemination including topical analytic reports, indicators, data tables, custom data requests, and relevant documentation.

3. Maintains detailed knowledge of data, tools, and analytical techniques used to produce standard and ad-hoc outputs.

4. Conducts environmental scans and literature reviews to support the development of reports, statistics, and indicators.

5. Supports the development of materials (e.g., analytical reports, methodology or technical notes, presentations, educational, media, etc.) for dissemination of findings and knowledge translation, and reviews written products for analytic accuracy and quality.

6. Provides professional and timely client support to respond to internal and external client queries as required.

7. Ensures adherence to, and ability to demonstrate compliance with, CIHI's privacy and security policies and procedures.

8. Maintains current knowledge of CIHI's data holdings, trends in health services research and health policy, and stakeholder information needs to support current work and contribute to the development of new analytic proposals.

9. Participates in other corporate project teams as required.

What you'll bring to the table
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, or equivalent education/experience.
  • One to three years related experience working with relational databases / large datasets, including manipulating, maintaining and preparing data and presenting analyses and reports for different audiences.
  • Experience with data manipulation and statistical software, such as SAS, R, Python or other statistical software is essential.
  • Experience in use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility and initiative in adapting quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with minimal supervision.
  • Organizational and time management skills, with an ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare, interpret and effectively present key analytical findings for different audiences is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with CIHI data or related health datasets is an asset.
