We are currently looking to fill a term position of Financial Analyst within the Capital Accounting team at Nova Scotia Power.The Capital Accounting team is responsible for the financial reporting and related analysis of NS Power\'s property, plant and equipment. NS Power\xe2\x80\x99s annual capital expenditures program is typically over $300 million and encompasses hundreds of individual projects annually.We are currently looking for a Financial Analyst to join our Capital Finance Energy Delivery team in 15 month term position. As a key member of Nova Scotia Power\xe2\x80\x99s Capital Finance Energy Delivery team, you will report to the Manager, Energy Delivery Capital Finance and work alongside a strong team within NS Power\xe2\x80\x99s finance function. The Financial Analyst role will lead the day-to-day accounting, forecasting, financial reporting and will support the capital contribution recovery process for the Capital Projects team. The Financial Analyst will also support the Project Manager\xe2\x80\x99s within the Capital Projects team to meet their financial goals, which can include assistance in preparing regulatory filings. This is an ideal role for candidates which thrive in fast-paced environments and have an interest in learning about capital projects.Key elements of this role include:As a Financial Analyst you will:

  • Provide accounting for the monthly, quarterly, and yearly close processes, ensuring actual costs are representative of the value of the work done, which also includes working closely with construction, procurement and finance to capture the accruals.
  • Work with business leaders to prepare budgets and forecasts for capital projects.
  • Work with business leaders in support for the capital contribution recovery process.
  • Provide detailed variance analyses to budget and forecast to monitor spending.
  • Work with business representatives on process review to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Perform tasks with excellent overall quality, while being able to prioritize work to meet deadlines and identify, recommend, and implement process improvements.

  • As the ideal candidate, you have a business degree in finance or accounting, a CPA designation, or working towards your CPA designation, and 3+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a similar role. Applicants with other combinations of relevant training and experience will be considered.
  • You have excellent computer skills using Microsoft Excel and are comfortable using accounting software.
  • You possess solid oral and written communication skills and have demonstrated success in effectively presenting and communicating ideas at a variety of levels.
  • You have strong organizational skills, are detail oriented, and are comfortable working to deadlines.
  • You can work well both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • A working knowledge of Oracle Financial System, Power Plan, Tableau, and PeopleSoft would be considered an asset.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers, by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
