Total Fund Management Department

The Total Fund Management (\xe2\x80\x9cTFM\xe2\x80\x9d) department focuses on management of total Fund activities across all investment horizons that will have a dynamic and direct impact on the Fund\'s overall performance. It is responsible for the successful implementation of the Fund\'s investment framework. These activities are focused primarily on the Strategic Portfolio, our long-term vision for the intended investment portfolio composition five or more years into the future. TFM also works with Active Investing Departments to effectively characterize and allocate to active investment strategies, with the aim of delivering the Strategic Portfolio over time. In addition, TFM works on the total Fund daily investment cycle, including all the processes, systems, and data needed to structure the investment portfolio in response to the on-going flow of cash and exposures into and out of the Fund. TFM also performs centralized trading to manage execution risk across all public assets (excluding credit) and markets on behalf of all investment departments. TFM consists of six groups: Active Investment Management; Applied Research and Models; Exposure, Leverage and Liquidity Management; Portfolio Design & Construction; Strategy & Operations; and Trading.

We are looking for up to three full-time Analysts to join our Active Investment Management (AIM) group in the Total Fund Management (TFM) department. The Active Investment Management group has distinct teams that are aligned to the five Active Investing Departments at CPP Investments: Real Assets, Private Equity, Credit Investments, Active Equities, and Capital Markets and Factor Investing. There are currently three Analyst roles open on the Active Investment Management team, one in each of the Real Assets, Private Equity, and Credit Investments focused teams. By applying to this role, you will be considered for each of the roles in the three focus areas concurrently. Candidates should indicate their preferred area(s) of focus in their cover note (can indicate more than one area if flexible). As part of the AIM group, you will work closely with other investing Departments and the broader TFM department to advance our mission to maximize the risk-adjusted returns of the Active Portfolio by ensuring that we have the best possible combination of active programs in the Fund and by acting as thought partners with the Departments on investment strategy matters.

The Real Assets department includes our Infrastructure, Real Estate and Sustainable Energies strategies globally. The Private Equity department includes our Funds, Direct Private Equity, Private Equity Asia, and Growth Equity strategies. The Credit Investments department is responsible for all CPP Investments\' public and private credit investments globally and invests in a broad range of credit products across the capital structure.

Role-specific Accountabilities:
  • Supporting senior team members in the day-to-day activities for oversight of the selected investment program (Real Assets, Private Equity or Credit Investments) including but not limited to program characterization calibrations, performance measurement and market conditions monitoring.
  • Playing a key role in the financial / statistical modeling, portfolio analysis, and portfolio construction work related to long-term strategic allocation.
  • Support the selected department on special situations, projects, new opportunities, and problem identification (if any) related to investment strategy.
  • Supporting senior team members in evaluating the selected investment program for delivery against assumptions and objectives including short-term capital budgets and the Portfolio Reviews.
  • Analyzing performance and risk metrics across programs to ensure reasonability.
  • Contribute to the design and development of analytic and reporting enhancements related to portfolio monitoring.
  • Developing relationships across the TFM, Finance, Risk, and other departments as part of advancing team, department, and organizational objectives.
Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of demonstrated experience in investment management, trading, acquisitions, consulting, corporate or investment banking, with direct deal or investment experience and exposure to private investments considered an asset.
  • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Mathematics, Business, or Economics. An advanced degree in any of these fields would be considered an asset.
  • Exemplary communication and presentation skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to apply structured problem solving to address new problems.
  • Knowledge of / experience with portfolio modeling and asset allocation processes is a plus.
  • Experience in some programming languages a plus (Python etc.).
  • Ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Professional designation such as a CFA are considered an asset.
  • Organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated Word and PowerPoint skills and advanced skills in Excel.
