The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander, Investigation and Support Bureau are seeking a qualified individual to join our Victim Centered Approach Team. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will assist and understand the needs of victims/witnesses/survivors and provide a full range of services from an investigative lens, in a manner which is respectful, compassionate, trauma informed, bias-free and impartial.

Note: This is a twelve (12) month temporary assignment with the possibility of an extension. There are no relocation expenses for this temporary assignment.

Regular employees are required to have manager approval. Successful candidate will return to their home position at the conclusion of the assignment.

This position may also require travel throughout the Province of Ontario. Exact dates are to be determined.

What can I expect to do in this role?

To assist and understand the needs of victims/witnesses/survivors and provide a full range of services during the investigative process, in a manner which is respectful, compassionate, trauma informed, bias-free and impartial. Services include but are not limited to needs assessment(s), crisis intervention, provision of information, support and/or referrals to victim services, during a victim/witness/survivors engagement with the OPP, including during the criminal justice process/inquests and inquiries.

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
Valid G Driver\'s license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the rights of victims as defined by Federal/Provincial Legislation. Knowledge of the criminal justice system/law enforcement, mental health laws, working knowledge of Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statutes. Knowledge of Victim Quick Response Program to support referrals to victim services.




Knowledge and understanding of the diversity of Indigenous culture. Community focus to maintain regular contact with and show genuine respect for the Indigenous community and the community at large by initiative involvement with community organizations, or agencies, including a knowledge of Indigenous Culture and Traditions. .


Strong understanding on the guidelines of victim confidentiality and privacy. Strong understanding of trauma and its impact on victims (i.e. trauma informed response).


Demonstrated understanding and commitment to be culturally responsive, in keeping with MMIWG Calls to Justice.




Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.


Excellent navigational skills and resource identification to ensure needs of victims are met during the investigative process. Empathetic listener with the ability to understand and respond appropriately and to treat all people with respect, understanding and compassion.


Ability to liaise with and maintain relationships with local, provincial, and federal agencies, human service systems, non-profit organizations and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth transition of and/or adequate and appropriate resources/referrals to victims.


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with different persons of different cultures, ethnicities, and socio-economic status and variety of personnel in varying positions both internal and external to the Organization, treating all individuals with patience, sensitivity, respect, and dignity. Negotiating/mediation skills, problem resolution.


Ability to identify trends related to victimization. Ability to assist in crime prevention initiatives in order to minimize ongoing victimization.


Planning, organizing and coordinating skills to manage multiple victim assistance projects/initiatives concurrently. Ability to work with and develop relationships within the community supported.

Employees who are not vaccinated under the policy with a valid medical exemption will not be required to attend a vaccine education program. All employees working in congregate living settings must undergo regular rapid antigen testing, regardless of vaccination status.
